Austin, Texas Police Department

• September 2008, 2.5%

• The 2009 increase will be 2.75% if other City employees get less than 2.5% raises.
• The contract calls for the City, in the last two years of the contract, to make contributions of 1% of officers’ annual pay to the police retirement fund.

Concord, New Hampshire Fire Department

• July 1, 2009 and 2010: Between 2% and 4% depending on CPI

• Under the new contract, which begins July 1, 2008, firefighters and fire officers will adopt the City’s new pay scale, which allows for wages to grow at a more consistent rate over a longer period of time.
• The new scale has 16 steps with 2.5% wage increases.

Frederick, Maryland Police Department

• July 1, 2008, 3.5%
• 2009 and 2010: Will match raises received by other City employees, a minimum of 2%

• Under the new contract, tuition assistance will increase by $1,000, to $3,000 per fiscal year.

New Castle, Pennsylvania Police Department

• January 1, 2009, 2%
• January 1, 2010, 2%
• January 1, 2011, 2%
• January 1, 2012, 3%

• Under the new contract, there is a wage freeze for 2008.
• The agreement allows the City, at its discretion, to use part-time police officers, who will not be covered by the collective bargaining agreement.

New Orleans, Louisiana Fire Department

• December 2008, 10.45%

• The package approved by the City Council also includes a 5% raise for firefighters certified as EMTs.

New York City, New York Police Department

• 2006 to 2009, 4% annually on August 1

• The new contract increases salaries for rookie officers to almost $42,000 a year, from $36,000.
• For the first time since 1994-95, NYPD officers will not be working under an expired contract.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Police Department

• July 1, 2008, 2%
• January 1, 2009, 2%

• The new agreement, which was handed down by an arbitration panel, also includes a 1% length-of-service raise and a 10.6% decrease in the City’s monthly contribution per employee into the Union’s health care fund.
