Baltimore, Maryland Police Department

• New contract calls for officers to switch from six days on, two days off work schedule to four ten-hour days per week. It also includes an educational incentive of $1,000 for officers with a four-year degree and increases the pay for new hires by almost $2,000.

Bridgeport, Connecticut Fire Department

• New contract calls for firefighters to contribute 12% of the monthly costs of their insurance benefits.

• If the department holds overtime costs to under $700,000 a year, officers will get an additional 3% raise in each of the last two years of the contract.

• Under the new contract, officers not required to pay health insurance premiums; monthly payments to their retirement health care fund will increase from $70 up to $200.

Sheboygan, Wisconsin Fire Department

• Under new contract, firefighters who work as paramedics will receive no premium for paramedic work in 2008, a 3% premium on January 1, 2009, and another 3% premium December 31, 2009.
• New contract also institutes a residency requirement mandating that new hires live within the city limits for five continuous years, following the completion of a one-year probation period.

Walnut Creek, California Police Department

• Under new contract, the City will offer a defined contributions medical benefits plan for officers who retire from the Police Department.
