Des Moines County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office

• Under the new contract, longevity pay for union employees will increase from $100 to $800 annually after five years of continuous service.

Grand Island, Nebraska Police Department

• Under the new contract, overtime calculations will be done based on the City’s 14-day pay period. Overtime will not be paid until 86 hours of work are completed in two weeks.
• The uniform allowance is changed from $50 a month to $25 every two weeks.

Johnson City, New York Fire Department

• Annual raises from 2006 to 2010 totaling 33%

• Under the new agreement, active firefighters and retirees will, for the first time, begin paying a percentage of their health care benefits.

Long Beach, California Fire Department

• January 1, 2008, 1%

• On October 1, 2010, salary adjustments will be made to each rank to bring total compensation to within two percent below the median pay for the position.
• By October of 2011 and 2012, Long Beach firefighters must be at the median salary.

Rialto, California Police Department

• July 6, 2008, minimum of 5%

• Under the new contract, the Department will change from the “two percent at 50” to the “three percent at 50” retirement plan. Starting at age 50, an officer can receive three percent of his salary, measured at its highest level over a 12-month period, multiplied by his years of service.

Tallahassee, Florida Police Department

• October 1, 2007, 5%
• October 1, 2008, 5%
• October 1, 2009, 5%

• The new contract includes a three percent pension enhancement.

Volusia County, Florida Sheriff’s Office

• October 2007, 2%

• Under the new contract, all new deputies must be nonsmokers who can pass a physical-abilities test.
