Boston, Massachusetts Fire Department

• July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2010, 19%

• 19% figure includes wage increases, a 3% increase for hazardous materials duty, and an average of 2.5% per firefighter for longevity pay.
• New contract makes firefighters the first City employees subject to random urine tests for drugs and alcohol.

Chicago, Illinois Police Department

• The arbitrated decision is far less than the 16.1% the mayor offered last year.

East Hartford, Connecticut Police Department

• By approving the contracts before May 21, union members will not have to contribute 1.5% of their salaries toward healthcare benefits, a measure signed into law, which goes into effect on that date.

Schenectady, New York Police Department

• New officers will pay 20 percent of their health insurance costs. The percentage decreases as an officer’s service continues past five years.
• Drug testing with reasonable suspicion that an officer is using a controlled substance will mean a sample of hair is analyzed instead of urine test.
• A $20,000 retirement incentive will also be offered in 2011 and 2012 for the first ten officers who apply.
