Duluth, Minnesota Police Department

• For employees hired after January 1, 2008, the City will contribute an amount equal to 1% of each active employee’s basic monthly pay into a post-employment healthcare savings account.

Peoria, Illinois Police Department

• New contract alters residency requirement so that officers with less than five years of service can live outside the city limits, within a 20-mile radius, in exchange for a 2% cut in base pay. The pay cut goes away once the officer reaches five years of service.

Providence, Rhode Island Fire Department

• Arbitrated contract.
• Firefighters not required to share costs of health insurance premiums as other municipal employees do.
• The new contract also continues cost-of-living pension increases for firefighters in excess of COLAs provided by municipal ordinance.

Springfield, Massachusetts Police Department (Supervisors)

• July 1, 2006, 2%
• 2.5% annual increases from July 1, 2007 to July 1, 2010

• Under the new contract, all members move to the top step, including longevity, creating one salary at each rank.

Visalia, California Police and Fire Departments

• April 2007, 4%
• January 2008, 2%
• July 2008, 2%
• July 2009, at least 4%, more if CPI is greater or non-represented City employees receive more than 4%

• Under new contract, employees will begin paying half of any future health-benefit increases, but with a cap if the monthly premium goes up by more than $50.
